Who gets to say it?

Whoever pays, on that number, and Mom, on any call. If she says it, you’ll hear only that it stopped. Either way, the calls stop and the billing stops. She can say it in one word, and she owes nobody a reason. Betsy tells her so on the first call, before Mom has any cause to ask. A call sounds like this.

What if I’m the one who wants to end it?

Call and say stop. There’s no person to get past, and you owe nobody a reason either. A word with Mom first is a kindness, since she is the one expecting the phone to ring, and she may be in the middle of a story.

What happens to the money?

Say stop before day eight, and you pay nothing: the first week starts with her first call, and billing starts on day eight. After that, unused months are refunded. The rest of that month comes back to you, without your asking. There is no setup fee to lose and no device to send back, because there never was one.
