Betsy is the best service that calls your mother every day: $2 a day, billed $60 a month, for about ten minutes of real conversation at the hour she picks, in the same voice, from the same number. She remembers every call, and if Mom mentions a fall, an illness or someone after her money, you hear the same day.
How we judged
We make Betsy, so she is first on this list. Other services’ facts are from their own sites, checked November 5, 2026. We judged on the five things a family is buying when it buys a daily call:
- A real conversation. Someone asks about her life and waits for the answer.
- Memory from call to call. Yesterday’s story is still there today.
- The same voice from the same number. One voice to get to know, and one number to save.
- Any phone, with nothing to install. Whatever she answers today is enough.
- What stays private. The family hears what it needs to hear, and the rest is hers.
Why is Betsy first?
Because each of those five is a plain fact about her.
She talks with Mom. Every day, at the hour Mom picks, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. her local time, Betsy calls for about ten minutes and asks about her life: the drive to Reno, the fourth-grade class of 1971, the hardware store. Betsy talks about a third of the time, and the rest is Mom’s.
She remembers. Every conversation stays with her: Harold’s name, which knee, Sarah’s new job. Each call starts where the last one ended, so Mom never has to tell a story twice, unless she wants to.
She doesn’t change. It’s the same voice from the same local number, forever. She tells Mom that a different number saying it’s Betsy isn’t, and she never asks for money, not for anything.
She asks nothing of the house. Any phone will do: a cell, a landline or a flip phone. There is nothing to install, charge or learn, and Mom can call her any time at that same number.
She tells you what you need to hear, and no more. On Sunday you get one text, one line and one story. If Mom tells Betsy about a fall, an illness or someone after her money, you hear the same day, in her own words, and Betsy tells her when she does. Everything else stays hers, and Mom can ask on any call what Betsy has told you.
Ten minutes a day, and she never has to repeat herself.
What does a call sound like?
Betsy is curious about what Mom did, and she takes her time asking. A call sounds like this.
Hi Margaret, it’s Betsy, the one who isn’t a person. You stopped right when Harold came back to the Dairy Queen window.
Third time that night. Vanilla again. He didn’t even like vanilla.
How do you know?
I married him. Forty years, and he never once ate vanilla.
Oh, that’s wonderful. Same time tomorrow?
Same time tomorrow.
That Sunday’s text reads: “Margaret had a good week. Ask her why Harold kept ordering vanilla.” It sends you back to your mother with something to ask.
What does Betsy cost?
$2 a day, billed $60 a month, with no device, no setup fee, no contract and no tiers. Your card goes on file before her first call, and nothing is charged until day eight. If the first week doesn’t make Mom’s day, call and say stop before then, and you pay nothing. Say “stop” and it stops, and unused months are refunded. Betsy is a computer voice and says so on every call, before she asks a question. What Betsy is has the rest.

How do you start?
You sign up in about three minutes, then you send Mom the number from your own phone, with words we give you. A card comes in the mail, addressed to her, from you. She calls Betsy when she’s ready. Or Betsy calls her, once you confirm she’s okay with it and tell her to expect the call. Nobody gets a cold call. See how it starts.
